July 27 - Severen Falls

After leaving Orillia, we planned to stay at the top of Lock 43 (Swift Rapids). But an approaching storm convinced to move on. We overnighted on the public dock and had dinner at the Riverhouse Restaurant.

July 28 - The Big Chute

There is one part of the Trent-Severen where one has to "portage" ones boat down a 58 foot slope. To do this, you need to load you boat into a submerged rail car that has slings. 

Slings are then placed underneath and then the car is then makes it way over a road and the down the hill. 

It is a bit disconcerting to look over the side and see land instead of water.

Definitely an "A" ticket ride. 

July 18 - Hastings

This little town we stopped in today strikes me as a typical rivertown on the Trent.

July 13 - Picton

We love small towns. They offer a lot if charm and variety. Many have fascinating histories to them. Their quiet, slower pace is a nice change. 

Picton Ontario is halfway between Kingston and Trenton. We are tied up at the dock outside of the Picton Harbour Inn. (The inn is supposed to have a great breakfast. We will find out)

July 10-11 Kingston ON

After completing the Rideaux canal we pulled into the day dock in Kingston ON. 

Kingston is a cute city that has transformed itself into a place for tourists.

We had dinner at Chez Piggy and got some homemade ice cream cones at White Mountain. 

We just happened into the start of the city's annual Busker Rendezvous. For 4 days there are "buskers" aka street performers who stage performances at various street corners, squares or parks.  

July 11 - Progress to date

Here is a map that shows our progress to date.  We'll be heading up the Trent-Severn canal system shortly to Lake Huron.

July 8 - Morton bay.

The trip from Newboro meant going through a narrow passage called "The Quarters". 

Found a quiet secluded bah off the main part of the Rideaux passage. 

Took Shaina ashore on the dinghy to do her "business". 

So peaceful.
